Do I need General Anesthesia?

This depends on the type of operation you are to undergo. Urologic and
gynecologic cases, superficial procedures, operations on the extremities
are often handled quite well with a regional anesthetic or local anesthetic
with or without sedation).

Some operations that are nearly always done with general anesthesia can
be done with regional or local if the patient really wants to avoid a general
anesthetic and will tolerate some minor discomfort. There are some instances
where we will strongly discourage a general anesthetic due to the patient's
associated medical issues.
